The amazing liver and gallbladder flush
I am so happy that you are choosing to do this liver and gallbladder flush. Not only is it incredibly beneficial for our physiological bodies, but it also benefits our energy bodies as we tend to harbor anger and bitterness in our liver. Having a healthy liver is imperative to our overall health, as the liver-organ meridian system is responsible for nourishing and storing the blood and ensuring the smooth flow of chi around the body. When our chi is flowing smoothly, our entire body feels more alive, energetic, aligned and less stagnant and heavy. Your skin and eyes will be clearer, and you will feel lighter both physically and energetically. So let’s support our livers and gallbladder!
This protocol is adapted from The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush by Andreas Moritz. It is a tried and true method that has been around for decades.
GENERAL NOTES
It’s best to not do this flush during the coldest winter months. Seasonally works best, around 3x a year, though some people need to do it more often than others. The best time of the month to do it is between the full and new moon. Allow plenty of space for the day of the flush and the following couple of days. Our bodies go through a lot and may release quite a bit, so you want to have a lot of spaciousness and to be home.
Generally speaking, you’ll want to eat very lightly for the week; things like basmati rice and steamed vegetables. Ideally you will avoid animal fats and meat for the week, though to be honest it’s most important to avoid any fat at all the day of the flush. We have had success with the flush still having some dairy and even lean meat during the week; just not the day of the flush. In general, go easy on protein and fats as best you can.
Avoid cold or chilled foods, including things like smoothies. Avoid your usual supplement routine for the week. It should go without saying that you should avoid alcohol for the week. Avoid added sweeteners, especially cane sugar. Fruit is okay, especially berries. In general we want to lay very low on our liver charge.
MATERIALS NEEDED
-Mason jars
-Coffee enema kit
-Malic acid
-JuvaTone supplement (linked below)
-Comfortone supplement (linked below)
-JuvaFlex essential oil blend (linked below)
-K&B Tincture (linked below; optional but recommended)
-Extra virgin olive oil
-Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
DAYS 1-6
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of malic acid in 1 quart of water. Drink this throughout the day. You don’t need to guzzle it down all at once; just sip on it throughout the day along with regular water. You can find malic acid in powder form at the health food store or online. (Here is a link as an example.)
Each morning, take two JuvaTone tablets. This supplement greatly supports the liver as we go through the cleanse. Take two more tablets between lunch and dinner.
Take Comfortone daily (one tablet in the AM, one tablet in the PM) to support your digestion during this cleanse. It’s important to keep things moving, so to speak, and Comfortone supports normal digestion health.
Every night before you sleep, put 2 drops of JuvaFlex essential oil on your liver. Hold it there with your right hand, and then your left hand on top of your right. Tune into your liver and give it some energy and love for all that it does for you! This oil is beneficial to have on-hand for liver support in general, i.e. any time you drink alcohol. (Any night that I have an alcoholic drink, I put 5 drops on my liver before I go to sleep, and I don’t wake up with a hangover.)
Putting a dropperful of K&B Tincture supports normal kidney and bladder health during the flush. This tincture is optional, but we find it very beneficial throughout the week.
DAY 6
This is the day of your flush. Make sure you don’t have big plans; you’ll want to take the day off. Have a light breakfast; ideally porridge (steel cut oats cooked in water and salt) with some berries if you’d like. Finish your quart of water with malic acid by 12 noon.
For lunch, have basmati rice with steamed vegetables. You may add soy sauce, tamari, nutritional yeast etc. for flavor; just make sure you avoid all fat on this day. Don’t cook the veggies in oil or butter. Not even a teaspoon. Steam them instead. Trust me, if I can do this, you can too :)
Finish eating and drinking (even water) by 2 PM.
A little before 6 PM, make your Epsom salt drink. Add 4 tablespoons of Epsom salts to a mason jar of 24 ounces of room temperature water. Shake it up and let it dissolve. This will give you 4 total servings of 6 ounces each. (3/4 cup per serving, or 6 ounces.)
At 6 PM, take your first Epsom salt serving. Warning: it doesn’t taste good. Add freshly squeezed lemon juice to make it more palatable.
At 8 PM, take your second Epsom salt serving. Watch a movie, read a book, get ready for bed, etc. You don’t want to be super active at this time. Take advantage of having to slow down.
At 10 PM, mix 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil with 3/4 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and drink. You’ll want to drink this without interruption - do not take more than 5 minutes to finish it. This mixture will help expel the stones from the gallbladder. At this point you’ll want to lie down immediately on your back, ideally with your head higher than your abdomen. Don’t speak and be still. Tune into your liver. Gently ease into sleep.
At 6 AM, take your third dose of Epsom salts. You can go back to sleep if you’d like. You may need to use the toilet at this point, and it’s fine to do so.
At 8 AM, drink the last serving of Epsom salt.
After two hours, around 10 or 10:30 AM, you may start consuming liquids again. Go easy here; start with water or tea. Move slowly to fruit - it’s best to break this fast with fruit such as berries or apples. Then you may add in gentle foods as the day continues. Porridge, rice, steamed veggies etc. Avoid adding in anything fatty and/or protein-heavy for the rest of the day. Eating a heavy meal, especially one with animal fats, may trigger an aggressive flush. Just go easy. You’ll want to replenish your body with healthy, gentle, and light foods. You can resume your normal diet the following day.
At any point when you need to use the toilet, do. There’s no such thing as “holding it longer will yield you better results.” The results will come no matter what, so even if you have to poop at 4 AM, do it. Your body will tell you what you need.
NOTES
The first 2 Epsom salt drinks act to dilate the bile ducts inside the liver. The olive oil and grapefruit drink will trigger a release of bile that had been saved up for over 24 hours. This large amount of bile will push the gallstones out of the bile ducts into the intestines. Throughout the first night and the next day, you can expect to have diarrhea due to the Epsom salt’s laxative effects. This will quickly settle as you feel the incredible benefits of the cleanse. You may feel tired, depleted, etc. the morning of the flush; you may even feel some mild discomfort (bloating) throughout the evening. Don’t worry - this will pass. Once you start releasing, you will immediately notice the huge shift, both energetically and physically.
Look for the green-colored gallstones to appear when you go to the toilet. Some will float to the top and might range from the size of small green peas to the size of a golf ball. Some will also sink to the bottom as they are calcified stones. This is good - it means you are releasing gallstones that may have been lodged in your gallbladder and liver for a long time! It’s weirdly fascinating, gross, and amazing. You won’t believe what comes out of your body.
POST-FLUSH INSTRUCTIONS
Two days later, day 8, you will do a colon cleanse (aka a coffee enema or some other form of colonic irrigation), which is essential to ensure that all gallstones have been removed from the colon.
NOTE: The post-flush colon cleanse, 2 days after the flush, IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to ensure that all the gallstones are flushed out of the body and that none remain lodged in the colon. It is also imperative to ensure that toxins expelled by liver cleanse will not go back into the body. If you are unclear on how to do a colon cleanse, please let me know and I will send you detailed instructions.
I hope that you find these instructions comprehensive and beneficial. Please reach out to me if you have any questions. I am happy to be your support as you go through this cleanse.
